For 15 years before J & P Pest Control was established, Jimmy Carruth (J) was a pest control applicator as a second job. His first job was a firefighter with the City of Jackson. He and his wife, Paula (P), decided in 1996 to establish their own pest control company. After their son, Shaun, moved back in the area, a door was open for them to purchase another company; therefore growing enough to have Shaun work in the business. After 25 years of service with the Fire Department, Jimmy retired and spent most days working full time in their pest control business. Several years later, the move was made to have their son-in-law, Jason, also work in the business. They strive to have their customers considered part of their ‘extended family’. Jimmy and Paula are avid outdoors people; Tournament Bass Fishing and Deer Hunting topping their list. They also like to scuba dive, snow ski and fish for saltwater species of fish. They founded and were the coordinators for the Fallen Firefighters Memorial Bass Tournament for thirteen years. This tournament was originally started to raise funds to help erect a memorial for the Jackson firefighters that had died in the line of duty. Once the memorial was built, the majority of the proceeds from the tournaments went to benefit other charities, such as Make-a-Wish of Mississippi, Mississippi Burn Camp, Catch-a-Dream, Central Chapter of the Mississippi Red Cross and the Mississippi Military Family Relief Fund. They are very involved in the lives of their four grandchildren – Allie, Bailey, Zoe and Zayn. They are also very involved in their church, Lakeside Presbyterian Church where Jimmy has served as a deacon.
